EDITORIAL October 2014

October is the busiest month of the year for me.

Having worked in a company distributing German brands of cookware and hotel equipment these past eight years meant familiarizing myself with the German calendar and October is full of German-related events, the most popular of which is, of course, Oktoberfest organized by German Club Manila and Sofitel! Bring out the kegs and beer mugs and feast on German fare :) It helps to have restaurateur friends and we have featured three offering the best German menu and beer in town – Prost Braumeister, BAMM and Brotzeit Philippines in our Degustation Section! The German Embassy Manila has its own feature for Day of German Unity and the Annual Ambassador’s Golf Tournament organized in cooperation with the German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc.

October also happens to be the month for the annual art fair ManilArt which brings together Manila’s top galleries, artists, cultural workers and literati under one roof for a weekend of creative distraction. Transwing Art Gallery Inc. (www.kunst-gallery.eu), as the only art gallery in Germany exclusively featuring Philippine Art and artists, is on its second year of participation. Simultaneous to ManilArt, Transwing Art Gallery Inc. is holding a month-long solo exhibit for its collection of Paco Gorospe artworks at the GSIS Museum so that gallery owner and art collector Mr. Klaus Hartung has to be in town for the special occasions.

Add to that the fact that four in our family, myself included, celebrate our birthday in October. We normally have the family Octobirthday on the last week of the month to make sure that the family is complete when we indulge in a buffet meal. With four celebrants, we all think it’s justified and more cost-efficient and practical to just have one celebration.

We have a pretty neat line up in our sections since we came online in June of this year and are looking forward to a better season in 2015.
